Donation of audio studios and ISDN lines for Nepal Earthquake Appeal
SNK Studios are currently lending voice over studios, engineers and ISDN lines on a pro bono basis to the Disasters Emergency Committee to help raise funds for the Nepal Earthquake Appeal. The DEC are a charity fundraising coalition that includes Oxfam, Save the Children, British Red Cross and others.
Organised by the Relations Group, SNK are hosting Mike Thiedke, Director of Public Engagement at Plan International UK and Andrew Hogg, Head of Media at Christian Aid who will be connecting up to numerous BBC and commercial radio stations across the country for interviews throughout the morning. The DEC appeal raised £19m in its first day following the earthquake last Saturday, but much more is needed.
Seb Juviler, Company Director at SNK Studios, said: “We’re pleased our facilities can be of some use to the Disasters Emergency Committee in letting the British people know how they can support the work in Nepal – already one of the world’s poorest countries – at this devastating time.”
If you think you can help, please go to http://www.dec.org.uk/appeals/nepal-earthquake-appeal and contribute what you can.
Film Storyboarding vs Advertising
Steve Langlois of Drawn in Ink –
It was interesting working on the film ‘The Leap’ along side director Karel van Bellingen. In advertising I usually complete 8-12 detailed colour frames per day, whereas working closely with a film director I produce about 40 frames in the same time. The former help sell an idea to a client. The latter are used to get through a busy day’s shooting schedule, helping remind the director of his vision and to aid the actors and camera crews achieve the required shots.
I enjoy both disciplines as I get to work in two ways; firstly creating detailed, specific, colour visuals and secondly developing looser drawings, but with precise angles and camera crops.
Premier of ‘The Leap’ A short Syfi film set in London 2084. Steve Langlois worked as production storyboard artist with Director Karel van Bellingen. Below are 4 of the frames used for the shoot.

Skyline build RCM’s Performance Simulator
Skyline Whitespace were asked to design and build a stage for The Royal College of Music’s Performance Simulator. It includes a back-stage and on-stage areas. Large screen in the middle displays a virtual audience, and supports two different modes, audience and audition panel. The Performance Simulator was developed to help musicians overcome their fear of performing in front of live audience and develop necessary professional skills. Most artists rehearse in practice rooms, away from their audiences. The simulator helps them to manage the stress of performing in front of large groups of people.
We were very excited to take part in such an interesting project. We designed the stage using our Inliten exhibition system. We installed large, black curtains to block the light and allow for an intimate performance between the musician and the virtual panel of judges. The surround stage recreates the feeling of performing to a live audience. Working with Royal College of Music has been fantastic. Our project managers payed great attention to details and worked really hard to get everything right. Broad range of skill and a positive attitude of our installation team ensured the stage was successfully delivered on time.”
